Aquatic Fungi Growing on Percid Fish Eggs (Percidae) in Poland
نویسندگان
چکیده
The authors investigated mycoflora developing on the eggs of three species of the percid fish. At total of 45 aquatic fungi (including 26 as parasites or necrotrophs) were noted. Pythium capillosum is a new record for Poland. The highest number of fungus species developed on eggs of all percids in water from the Biala river, which had the highest content of biogenic compounds.

Isolation and Characterization of the Etheostoma tallapoosae (Teleostei: Percidae) CENP-A Gene
Both centromeric alpha-satellite sequences as well as centromeric protein A (CENP-A) are highly variable in eukaryotes. CENP-A, a histone H3 variant, is thought to act as the epigenetic "mark" for assembly of centromeric proteins. While most of the histone fold domain (HFD) of the CENP-A is fairly well conserved, a portion of this HFD as well as the N-terminal tail show adaptive variation in bo...
متن کاملAntimicrobial egg cleaning by the fringed darter (Perciformes: Percidae: Etheostoma crossopterum): implications of a novel component of parental care in fishes.
Broad-spectrum antimicrobial compounds have recently been identified in the epidermal mucus of fishes and probably serve as a first line of defence against microbial pathogens. Because of the ubiquitous nature of fungi and bacteria in aquatic systems, defence against these pathogens should be required throughout the lifespan of fishes, including the egg stage. We conducted experiments on Etheos...
متن کاملAdaptive Evolution of CENP-A in Percid Fishes
Centromeric protein A (CENP-A) is the epigenetic determinant of centromeres. This protein has been shown to be adaptively evolving in a number of animal and plant species. In a previous communication we were able to demonstrate that signs of adaptive evolution were detected in the comparison of CENP-A sequences from three percid fish species. In this study we isolated the CENP-A gene from eight...
متن کاملRedescription of Neoechinorhynchus tenellus (Acanthocephala: Neoechinorhynchidae) from Esox lucius (Esocidae) and Sander vitreus (Percidae), among other Percid and Centrarchid fish, in Michigan, U.S.A
The only 2 published taxonomic accounts of Neoechinorhynchus tenellus are those of Van Cleave (1913) and Van Cleave (1919) from Esox lucius Linnaeus and Sander vitreus (Mitchill) (1⁄4Stizostedion vitreus (Mitchill)). While Van Cleave’s original description is adequate to identify N. tenellus, his description of proboscis armature, lemnisci, reproductive system in both sexes, and eggs was either...
متن کاملStructure of supporting elements in the dorsal fin of percid fishes.
The dorsal fin is one of the most varied swimming structures in Acanthomorpha, the spiny-finned fishes. This fin can be present as a single contiguous structure supported by bony spines and soft lepidotrichia, or it may be divided into an anterior, spiny dorsal fin and a posterior, soft dorsal fin. The freshwater fish family Percidae exhibits especially great variation in dorsal fin spacing, in...
